Rachelle Wallis Bio

Rachelle Wallis is honored to serve as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Outreach Consultant with the Wyoming Department of Education. It’s a privilege to be part of a dedicated team working to promote high-quality educational opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across the state. She believes every student deserves access to an excellent education, and she is deeply committed to supporting that vision.

Originally from Duluth, Minnesota—known as the “Land of Ten Thousand Lakes”—Rachelle developed a lifelong love for nature and the outdoors. She earned her degrees from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., with a focus on Education and International Development for People with Disabilities. As part of her graduate studies, Rachelle completed a four-month internship in Costa Rica, which provided invaluable international experience and broadened her perspective.

Rachelle’s professional background includes teaching elementary students at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at the college level, and serving as a full-time ASL and interpreting instructor at the university level. She has also worked with DEAF, Inc. as the ASL Program Coordinator before being promoted to Program Director.

In addition to her work in education and program leadership, Rachelle is a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), which allows her to support communication access and foster inclusion on a broader scale.

Rachelle’s husband is a medical ASL interpreter and passionate hunter. Together, they have a bilingual daughter who communicates in both ASL and English. In spring 2024, her family relocated to Wyoming in pursuit of a nature-focused, slower-paced lifestyle. They are excited to explore this beautiful state and are grateful to be part of the Wyoming community.
